Book Tag

(Stolen by a cadre of ninjas from Nat.)

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.
6. Tag another person.

He held it to the light. A single bit of sediment coiling in the jar on some slow hydraulic axis. He tipped the jar and drank and he drank slowly but still he drank nearly the whole jar.

Cormac McCarthy, The Road.

EDIT: I have decided to actually tag people, which Nat didn't do, making me a slightly better person than he is.

I hereby tag Bruce, Zeke, UnFreddy Jones, Rachel D, Rachel E, and Fred Jones (just because he won't respond).

That's when he finds like, an old buried barrel of something, right? I don't remember whether it was actually alcohol or something or if it was just pure water.

Ow. That last sentence hurt my brain. Please Mr. McCarthy, please re-write that.

Ow ow ow ow ow. x_x

Nat: It's just water, I believe. (As a side-note: the short-burst format in which that book is written is makes it excellent for reading between classes, when I have time to read, y'know, short bursts.)

Paul: McCarthy has a few sentences like that; they look bad, but they can actually sound really good read aloud.

Paul: I don't know what Ethan is talking about. As I recall, about every fourth sentence looks like that. ;)

(Most punctuation burned in the fire, you see)

It's a literary device. Ironic understatement. Geez. :P

It's Not Freddy, not UnFreddy. If I were I am simply NOT Freddy, not UnFreddyized. Get your facts straight, goat-boy!

1. Insulting people gives them no impetus to get "facts" straight about you.

2. I translated your name into Newspeak. It fits better.

1. It was not an insult. In the stories, Satyrs are generally the good guys. Just think, I could have called you a Jotun, or a Cacodemon, or even a Dybbuk. Consider yourself lucky I only call you a goat-boy.

2. No, it does not. Y'see, Not Freddy Jones stands for Not Sure Who She Is But She's Definately NOT Freddy Jones. UnFreddy Jones just.. does not work.

Ethan said...

Sure it does. You just have to translate the whole thing.

Unsure who she is, but doubleplusunFreddy Jones.
